LC 1 Construction
It Takes All Kinds - Every person helps build the rockets; some of us assemble, some of us provide support. Tracey Craft prepares to cut a centering ring.
Tab A, Slot B - The prototype starts to take shape. Many contributed to the design though it was based on Robert Goddard's early work. With modern materials, our first craft will exceed the performance of all of Goddard's early craft.
Child's Play - Jay, Megan, and Zack Latrell help us around the hangar. Children are the future and Beyond-Earth recognizes their importance by visiting area schools to promote space and space careers.
X-Prize Bound - Originally an X-Prize competitor, these small craft, while not suitable for humans, allow us to build a track record of successful flights. Here Tracey Craft shows off the space age frame.
Whitling It Down - The nosecone starts to take shape. Many of the pieces are modeled in Styrofoam or cardboard to verify shape and size. The price sticker on the nose cap suggests that we used an existing piece of hardware as a model.
Fit to be Tied - Now that the frame is assembled, we need to check it to be sure it's straight and true. The next step is to attach the skin. Doors will be added and electronics then the motor casing will be installed.
