LC 1 Flight - April 16, 2004
Everybody's Working for the Weekend - Joe Latrell and Jim Stewart apply a
final piece of rocket skin on Launch Day as Tracey Craft prepares the cargo container.
|
A Few Good Men - The Launch Team raises Launch Craft 1 into position April
16th. The Team was invited to use the Pawnee Grasslands site as a demo for
Northern Colorado Rocketry's "Mile High Mayhem," a High-Powered Rocket
experimental launch day.
|
The Countdown continues - LC-1 is on the pad, preparing for lift off. The
avionics bay is about to be closed and the electronics turned on.
|
A lot of people are needed for an
endeavor like this; Left to Right in the back: Laura Latrell, Steve Adams,
T'Chris Gardner, Joe Latrell, Sam Schaffer, and Biff Bassett. Front row: Zack
Latrell, Jim Stewart, Jim Amos, Tracey Craft, James Russell, and John Jamieson.
|
LiftOff!! - And LC-1 Clears the Tower... The craft reached an altitude of
over 8,000 ft. with a flight time of 24 seconds. Though the nosecone collapsed 500 feet
into the flight, the craft flew straight and true.
|
"Missed it by that much" - The Recovery Team collects LC-1 after the
parachutes fail to deploy. Interestingly, the "front impact crumple zones"
work great and the crash site only suffered a one inch divit in the ground.
The payload container survived the crash.
